Domestic Silván Diamond Jewelry from Laatukoru's Own Workshop

Did you know that Silván diamond jewelry is a domestic product that is handcrafted in our own goldsmith's workshop in Hyvinkää? Or that the precious metal we use in jewelry is 100% recycled gold, which we have bought from our customers as "scrap gold" and which circulates back to our customers as new Silván jewelry?

In our goldsmith's workshop in Hyvinkää, in a small and close-knit working community, Silván jewelry and our customers' custom-made works are produced, respecting the Finnish goldsmithing tradition, which was started by Keijo Silván, the founder of Laatukoru in 1972. Diamond jewelry is made from 100% recycled gold and responsible diamonds, respecting valuable materials and traditions preserved for decades.

A dozen goldsmiths work at our goldsmith's workshop in Hyvinkää. In our work community of ten people, there are no lines or factory-like operating models. The work is done by hand and jewelry is made in small series or even as individual pieces. Working careers are long in a close-knit working community, and some of our goldsmiths have been involved since the birth of Silván diamond jewelry, since 1990.

Silván jewelry was launched in the 1990s, but its roots are in 1972, when the founder of Laatukoru, Keijo Silván, started making jewelry in the basement of his private house in Hyvinkää. The operation that started as a one-man jewelry shop today covers 12 stores, an online store, its own goldsmith's shop, and its own Silván jewelry collection. The family business is already in its third generation, and the third generation of the Silván family is also responsible for the jewelry shop and the Silván brand today.

At first, the production of Silván jewelry focused on engagement rings, which were in high demand in the 1990s. Today, the collection includes, in addition to wedding and engagement rings, a wide variety of diamond rings as well as diamond pendants and diamond earrings. The collection is strongly based on the goldsmithing tradition that Keijo Silván started in 1972. We follow our times, but we respect the quality and finish of a piece of jewelry made by professional craftsmanship.

Silván jewelry design by 3D modeling

Silván diamond jewelry - 3D technology and finished craftsmanship

The production of Silván jewelry is a combination of traditional goldsmith work and new technology. Some of our gold rings are made using traditional techniques, such as rolling and pressing. Jewelry with a more complex shape or stone setting is made using wax models or 3D printed models. With the help of a wax model or a 3D printed model, a mold is made for the jewelry, into which the gold is poured. After a golden blank has been cast from the ring, the planting of the diamonds and the treatment of the surface begin, which is all done by hand.

In our Hyvinkää workshop, a dozen skilled goldsmiths work, whose different strengths complement each other. High-quality diamond jewelry is created when it is backed by decades of experience, but also new know-how, which is required by the developing industry. In 2009, Silván jewelry, which is made by hand in Finland, was awarded the key flag symbol of the Finnish Union of Finnish Work as a proof of Finnish work, and our work to preserve the Finnish goldsmith tradition continues to this day.

20 kg of recycled gold and 600 carats of responsible diamonds

Our goldsmiths process about 20 kg of gold and about 600 carats of diamonds every year. The gold used in Silván jewelry is 100% recycled and we buy diamonds from well-known European diamond exchanges that are committed to complying with industry standards.

Gold is a valuable material that is easy to recycle. We use 100% recycled gold in our jewelry, which we also collect from our customers in the form of old gold jewelry and objects. This "scrap gold" that we buy from our customers is melted, cleaned and processed into fine gold, after which the portion of fine gold ends up as material for new Silván jewelry. In this way, we ensure that the gold used in our jewelry is 100% recycled and we reduce the need for new gold mining and the resulting environmental impact. Our workshop also has precise measures to ensure that we carefully collect all the gold dust generated during work and put it back into use.

Carefulness is also a key issue in the diamonds selected for our jewelry. We want to make sure that our diamonds are conflict-free and responsibly sourced. This is best achieved by buying diamonds from large European diamond exchanges that follow industry standards and responsibility in their operations. Our GIA-certified diamonds are fully traceable and produced in accordance with internationally recognized labor, trade and environmental standards. Silván diamond jewelry is always accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, and diamonds over 0.50 ct are also accompanied by a GIA certificate.
