Ordering a ring online can make you wonder: How do I make sure I get the right size and what should I consider when choosing a size? What if I order the wrong ring size? Of course, it would be ideal to find out the correct size in the store with a professional, but that is not always possible. However, don't worry, the size of the ring can be measured quite easily even at home. Use your old ring, our printable size guide, or a ruler and tape. If you are not in a hurry, you can also order a ring measurement from our online store. In this article, we put together instructions on how to measure ring size easily at home.
Tips for finding your ring size
The ring must be just the right size, because a ring that is too small or too big is uncomfortable to wear. A ring of the right size feels tight enough and, on the other hand, loose enough to slide through the middle joint of the finger. When finding out the right ring size, it is good to consider a few things. So grab our tips below:
- The size of the finger varies slightly during the day. Measure the size of the finger several times during the day, and at least in the morning, at noon and in the evening. This is the most sure way to find out your correct size.
- The size of your finger can also vary depending on the temperature. Your finger is probably slightly thicker in the heat of summer than in the cold of winter. So please consider the season and temperature when choosing the right ring size.
- The wider the ring, the tighter it fits on your finger. If you are purchasing a wide ring model, you should choose a 0.5 mm larger size.
- When measuring your finger size at home, be careful. One millimeter means a whole ring size.

Find out the right ring size using an old ring
The size of the ring is equal to the diameter of the inside measurement of the ring in millimeters. Thus, an old ring that fits your finger perfectly is an effective way to determine the correct size. You can measure the inner dimension with a ruler, but the accuracy of finding out the inner dimension of the ring is provided by a caliper. The caliper tells you the inner dimension of your ring with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. If you don't own a caliper and measuring with a ruler feels uncertain, there are also other ways to find out the ring size. In our ring size guide, there is a measurement table on which you can check the correct ring size.
This is how you measure the right size of the ring with a tape and a ruler
How to measure the size of a ring if you don't have an old ring, a caliper and printing is not possible? An old trick to find out the ring size is to use a tape and a ruler. The ribbon can be, for example, gift string or a thin piece of paper. In addition to tape and a ruler, you also only need scissors and a pencil.
- Cut a short piece of tape and wrap it around the finger to be measured at its widest point. Please see that the band fits well; is not too loose and not too tight.
- Mark the point where the ends of the tape meet, e.g. with a pencil, and spread the tape straight on a flat surface. Measure the length of the tape up to the mark with a ruler and this is how you have determined the circumference of your finger.
- You can find out the ring size from, for example, our ring size guide or the ring size table, which can be found on the ring size page (at the bottom of the page) . Use the size chart on the last page of the size guide to convert your finger circumference to ring size. If the size falls between two sizes or you are unsure of the right ring size, we recommend choosing a larger size.
Order a ring gauge
If you have time to wait a couple of weeks to purchase the ring, we recommend ordering a free ring measurement. The ring gauge arrives by letter mail directly to your home, and it takes an average of 1-2 weeks to arrive. The ring sizer is free of charge for our customers and it is possible to measure the size of the ring very reliably.
