The Longing Jewelry Series is Designed by Taru Harmaala Chaloff

The sculptural, beautifully patterned silver elements of Longing jewelry are inspired by an old photo frame. In the bracelet and necklace, the elements follow each other in a chain, just as we all follow each other in the never-ending chain of history and time. "And what is now will soon be a wistful memory of the past."

The Longing jewelry series was designed by goldsmith and master of arts Taru Harmaala Chaloff. Harmaala Chaloff's jewelry are born from the designer's own personal experiences. However, behind the simplified style is the idea of ​​leaving room for the wearer's own meanings and imagination. He sees that jewelry becomes whole when the wearer adds their own story to it. When jewelry is associated with a strong emotional bond, it gives its wearer strength.

Longing Necklace

The Kalevala Longing necklace consists of interconnected sculptural silver elements. The beautifully patterned silver elements form a spectacular necklace that completes a party outfit or complements everyday wear. The length of the necklace is 49 cm. The necklace comes with a locking piece consisting of two silver elements, which can be shortened by removing it. The length of the removable insert is about 4.5 cm, so by removing it, the necklace can be shortened to about 45 cm. An extension piece can also be purchased for the necklace. The extension piece also consists of two silver elements and can be used to make the necklace even longer by 4.5 cm.

Longing Earrings

The sculptural silver elements of the Kalevala Longing earrings are just as suitable as part of business attire as they are as a finishing touch to a party outfit. Longing earrings' pendants are inspired by an old photo frame and combine a simple style with a beautiful pattern that leaves room for the imagination. The pendant is soldered onto a silver hook. The height of the earring is 32 mm and the width of the silver element is 20 mm.

The Kalevala Longing Jewelry are Made Responsibly in Finland

The Longing jewelry series, like all Kalevala jewelry, is manufactured at Kalevala's own factory in Konala, Helsinki. With Kalevala jewelry marked with a Key Flag Symbol, the Finnish jewelry manufacturing is cherished and questions of responsibility are considered from a wide range of perspectives. The silver used in the silver Kalevala jewelry is 95 percent recycled and the remaining five percent comes from Nordic mines. This is also the case with jewelry from the Longing jewelry series. By recycling materials, it is possible to significantly reduce the consumption of natural resources.

At the Kalevala jewelry factory, the jewelry manufacturing processes are modern, but each piece of jewelry still goes through an average of ten pairs of hands. Casting technology has been used in the production of the silver elements of Longing jewelry. In casting, molten metal, in this case silver, is poured into a mold and when it cools, it solidifies into the shape given by the mold. After that, the silver elements are connected to each other by hand.

At the Kalevala jewelry factory, energy is produced and water is used sustainably. The electricity used by the factory is produced by wind power and its own solar panels. The factory is also illuminated by energy-saving LED lights. The factory also has state-of-the-art equipment that separates chemicals and metals from the process waters generated in jewelry manufacturing before they end up in the municipal sewer network. Part of the water is also recycled back into the production processes.
