The new jewellery series Petsamo Kolttakorut celebrates the 70th anniversary of the settlement of the Koltsasamo people in 2019. The Koltsasamo people have been pioneers in the use of earrings. Based on an earring once found in the Suonikylä village of Petsamo, the series highlights the endangered Kolts culture. The face of the jewellery is Heidi Gauriloff, a young Koltsamese artist who learned her family language as an adult and now makes music, art and traditional crafts in the Kolts language. The jewellery comes with a small story booklet that explains the history of the jewellery in Finnish, English, Coltish, Northern Sami and Inarine.
The story:
This jewellery is inspired by the village of Suonikylä in Petsamo. The Kolttan people were the pioneers of earrings. They wore earrings decorated with colourful glass and silver beads, which they received from merchants from the East. Kalevala Returning to the collection after a two-decade break, the jewellery celebrates the 70th anniversary of the settlement of the Koltsaami in 2019.
